Whistler Area Golf...Amazing!

A quick run up to Whistler and Pemberton last week has convinced me there are places on this planet that everybody should visit at least once!

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club and the Big Sky Golf & Country Club made for terrific golf at a pair of distinctively different facilities. Chateau Whistler is a non-returning, 18-hole layout that will challenge you with uneven lies and varied elevation. Director of Golf Gregg Lown is a Windsor, Ontario native who keeps things running smoothly. It is also home of a David Leadbetter Academy. Big Sky is perhaps the region's best, a walkable golf course nestled at the foot of daunting Mount Currie. Courtney Foxgord is an energetic, 30-something golf professional who doubles as the Director of Sales & Marketing. This is also the ultimate female-friendly golf course!

And from the "did you know" category, a new Holiday Inn Express is set to open for business in Squamish on October 26. The project is the brainchild of longtime western Canadian hotelman Brian Ostrander, a Saskatoon native who has relocated to Calgary. He has a pair of partners in the business, none other than Mike Babcock and Bob Molle.

Both are also Saskatoon-born and raised. Babcock is making a habit of coaching his NHL teams to Stanley Cup Finals while Molle earned two Grey Cup rings with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He also collected a silver medal in wrestling at the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Heady stuff for a group of prairie boys who have made it big in and away from the sports arena!
