Edmonds Ties Cougars' Career Games Played Record

Congratulations are due to a terrific young fella from the prairies, Ty Edmonds of the Prince George Cougars!

Edmonds, who has minor hockey ties to the Winnipeg area, has appeared in 188 Western Hockey League games as a member of the Cougars. That ties him for the franchise's career lead with Scott Myers, who played for the Cats between 1996 and 2000.

For game number 188, Edmonds did it in style last night in Spokane, where the Cougars earned a 2-1 victory, Edmonds made 30 saves to garner recognition as the game's first star.

Also of note among Prince George alumni is former NHL goaltender Chris Mason, who appeared in 153 career games for the Cougars.

Edmonds is playing as a 20-year-old this season in Prince George, along with heir apparent Nick McBride. The Cougars have been ranked nationally among the Top 10 CHL teams for almost the entire 2016-2017 season.

Here's a look back at a podcast from the 2014 CHL Top Prospects Game in Calgary, where I had an opportunity to chat with Edmonds. The article and podcast are right here.

The Cougars head into the break on a four-game winning streak, good for a 25-8-2 record which is tops in the WHL standings.
