West Kelowna Fires...

The central Okanagan Valley has been consumed in recent days by news surrounding three fires. And while locals are finding ways to deal with the carnage, people across Canada have been dealing with information that is not totally accurate.

Part of the problem is due to a "name change". Last year, "Westbank", located between Kelowna and Peachland, was re-named "West Kelowna". Unfortunately, for those unaware of this or unfamiliar with the geography, there is a perception that the city of Kelowna is on fire. In fact the fires, while very serious, are across Okanagan Lake from the city of Kelowna.

Today, the beautiful, blue Okanagan sky is clear and sunny above Kelowna and area with only small amounts of smoke and haze visible on the westside of the lake. Many evacuees are returning to their homes. The firefighters have done an amazing job.
