Future Looks Bright for Chris Baryla...

If you're surfing the web this weekend, check out the Nationwide Tour site to stay up to speed on the progress of Vernon, BC's Chris Baryla. And of course, the Golf Channel will televise the Tour Championship this weekend.

Baryla, pictured on the right with his father after winning a tournament at the Kelowna G&CC, enters the event in 19th place on the money list. He will cash a cheque this week, which should be enough for him to earn playing privileges on the PGA Tour for next season.

You can click here to check out this tidy bit of number crunching from the Nationwide Tour. It outlines those players who are vying for their PGA Tour cards. Baryla is listed as "probable".

A chat with Dick Zokol

Spent the day with a few friends at the Sagebrush Golf & Sporting Club. The facility is located in the Nicola Valley near Quilchena, a few minutes from Merritt. The golf course is outstanding, a rugged and eminently playable layout with wide fairways and huge, huge greens. Sagebrush, which can be played on an "Invitation Only" basis, provides a thoroughly enjoyable experience. One of the highlights for me was the opportunity to meet and dine with former PGA Tour player Dick Zokol, a player who has had an enormous impact on Canadian golf. Zokol, who will celebrated his 51st birthday in August, was a festive host at Sagebrush. The club is a development Zokol has envisioned for many years.
